I have been all or mostly dairy-free for the last 9 years.
One of the things I initially found disappointing was the number of desserts that I had to abstain from.
It seemed everywhere I turned people were offering me dessert (which was incredibly thoughtful), yet they always seemed to have dairy in them. Ice cream, cake, cookies, pies, chocolate bars—you name it—dessert and dairy seemed synonymous.
I try not to eat sugary foods too often. But from time to time it’s nice to enjoy something sweet, right?! Here are 7 dairy-free treats, in no particular order, that don’t compromise on taste one bit. My dairy eating husband loves many of them too. And they are all gluten-free, as well, if that is important to you.
Oh, my. These chocolate covered almonds are seriously addicting. I think it is the little bits of sea salt and cocoa sprinkled on them that send them over the top. This may be my favorite non-dairy treat. Brance is seriously crazy about them too. We bought some to take with us while traveling over Thanksgiving and he kiddingly suggested that we hide them so that we wouldn’t have to share any, ha.
Is it just me or is there something amazingly delicious about a perfectly chewy granola bar? They definitely hit on that with this bar and I just love the hints of vanilla and bits of chewy blueberry (both of which I was suspicious of when I initially tried this bar). This is hands-down my favorite granola bar and it doesn’t even have a bit of chocolate. That is definitely saying something for my chocolate-loving self.
I first had these maybe a year and a half ago and I was amazed at how great they tasted. They are simply a fruit after all and I have not been a fan of dried fruit in the past. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy fresh fruit. But I wouldn’t call fruit a treat/dessert and dried fruit even less so. But this stuff is delicious. I’m definitely a fan.
I have searched high and low for the perfect non-dairy ice cream. Everything that I tried in the past left me miserably disappointed. So much so that I nearly gave up hope that a good non-dairy ice cream existed at all. That is until I tried this one at my sister’s house last spring. It is so good, you won’t even miss the real thing. Seriously.
Ooooh. These are delicious. They are the perfect mix of sweet and salty. I would describe them as a nut brittle. I nearly ate an entire bag myself while traveling over Thanksgiving. They are one of my recently discovered favorite treats.
What is it about sweet and salty popcorn that makes it so difficult to stop eating!? This version is a great one to pick up at the store when you don’t have time to make it at home. It doesn’t compromise on taste one bit. And it is equally as addictive.
I am fairly picky about trail mixes. I don’t really care for the peanut and mm varieties and they are everywhere, especially when you are looking for a sweet one. This trail mix has the perfect mix of nuts (almonds, cashews, and pistachios) along with delicious chocolate chunks and chewy cherries and cranberries. It’s amazing. (FYI: I love to stick it in the freezer. It tastes even better really cold for some reason!)
